Bye Bye Summer

So fall is FINALLY here. The nights are crisp and Starbucks has pumpkin spice lattes. This is absolutely my favorite season and I've been complaining about the heat for awhile now and I should state that I do love summer, just not after I move back south and there's no beach! So as a tribute to summer, here are a few pictures from my last day at the beach avec ma famille :)

Acrylic/Spray Paint

So I've finally finished my corset after 20+ hours working on it but unfortunately I was not able to get pictures of it before I had to turn it in so I will be sure to post some after it is graded!

So for now, here is a canvas that I have painted over approximately 5 times because I have never been completely satisfied with it and I'm not entirely sure if I am now.  I am leaving it alone for the time being and thinking about it; it's chilling on my living room wall.

It is painted with acrylic and has spray paint drips at the focal point.

My favorite part of the whole painting is the bottom left corner (seen above).  It has a lot of depth in the color and a lovely visual texture that the camera didn't capture very well but it's there. Promise.

Next project: 1950s inspired wedding gown. Get excited.

Obsessions

Obsessions 1: Burberry. I would love nothing more than to be part of Burberry's autumn winter 2010 modeling cast. How fabulously androgynous do they all look? (And what beautiful men! drool) The clothing in the new line is astounding as well. I adore how they have kept so true to their heritage and still manage something new every season.  A lot of it has to do with how playful they are with their textile selections. My favorites? The Burberry Prorsum brushed sheepskin coat and python thigh high boots. I know a lot of people aren't a fan of Burberry's use of animal products but I can't help it; i love the luxury of fur and leather.

Obsession 2: Dominic Jones.
He was featured in this month's Elle and his jewllery designs are breathtaking and wonderfully edgy. All of his inspirations come directly from nature, the little critters in it in particular, and he utilizes the symmetry brilliantly. My favorite is the crocodile jaw cuff:
Unfortunately I cannot find where it is sold and his website isn't wanting to work on my computer. I think an Internet Explorer update is in order.  However a few of his pieces can be found on Net-a-porter; I am salivating over the fang necklace and claw ring in particular. Now I just need to be out of college and have a marvelously high paid job so I can afford them :) You should also check out Dominic's blog. It is full of his random inspirations and updates on his business.  Photos via Elle.

Obsession 3: GQ
The articles are awesome and the letter from the editor never fails to be thought provoking and hilarious simultaneously. Not to mention it's full of beautiful and well groomed men. Their fashion week photo journal is is fantastic and their website is fabulous if you can't subscribe to the magazine!  Well that is it for now!

NatureMandalas

So I stumbled upon this NatureMandalas etsy and I am positively in love with the animal prints.  They are all affordable and I am ever so tempted to splurge and buy five or so different ones. They are documentation of the Maine landscape, which is one of the most beautiful states I've ever been to- if you've not been you should most certainly make a trip there. Bar Harbor is brilliant! The most fabulous part of the store: there's free shipping on all unframed prints!
Here are my favs...

I love how hairy the sheep and cow are! It makes me want to cuddle them! I am going to have to save up to purchase one or two.

Wantsies

Brilliant, crazy, and platinum. I need this on my head asap.
This is the Cornish Rex and it is just about the most adorable, skinny, big-eared, fangy bundle of wavy haired fluff that I have ever set eyes on. PLUS: they don't shed much. Parfait, non? The black and white is my fav. Downside: They are approx. $300.

Another ridiculous animal that I can't get enough of, their stocky little bodies and pounds of wrinkles are just too cute! Too bad they're more expensive than the Cornish Rex- they run about $1,000. Yikes! I suppose it's a good thing I don't plan on getting an animal until after school.
In the mean time- I miss my puppies at home :(
Aren't they the best?
I don't remember where I got the web pictures from. Love!

Seattle Dreaming

Alright so for my last spring break I took a trip to Seattle to visit my friend, A, who is stationed there. She lives in Tacoma and we went all around the area. Seattle, Forks (ironically of course), La Push (not so ironically- it's bloody beautiful), Mt. Rainier, etc. So as I've been reaearching Auckland a lot lately -trying to study there- I found out that they have a space needle of sorts there and it got me to reminiscing about Seattle. Thus, I thought that I would post some of my fav pics from my trip. It would totally rock to live there at some point.

We commence with La Push.

A and BH- aren't they the cute married couple. I was on their couch for the week that I was there

so either A or BH took this one seeing how I'm the subject but loves it.

On to Forks-

You should have seen the people here it was ridiculous. Absolutely everything referenced Twilight and I guess we were there on the day of a dvd realease? so there were groups of people dressed up like different characters.

Seattle! I totally fell in love with the city. It's like a hipster mecca so i fit right in ha. Got my first tattoo down by the market!

reflection

balloon man. I'm so in love with him and all his color

Space needle, obvi. Also a sculpture that looks like it's done by the dude that did all the ones for IU's campus
downtown.

There is my Washington experience. It is a truly lovely place and I totally suggest that everyone should visit at least once. The west coats is more expensive but it's worth it for sure.  Now for the hoards of reading that I've successfully put off the entire day

ciao, bella

So it's my first blog post evr! (if you dont count xanga back in the day) Above photos are from the Spoon with C before she left us for a year in England :'(  miss her already; she better love every moment. i'm trying to get over the pond sometime this year to see her, gotta figure out the logistics.

On a brighter note, corset materials! (+some sketches)

using the slubby texture for fashion side i think
